A blue ocean business is a business that doesn’t compete. It’s in a category of it’s own. Blue oceans are new untapped markets, while red oceans are over saturated markets.

Take for example the brand Kodak. Do you remember the tagline “It’s a Kodak moment”? Well they went out of business because of digital photography. At that time, a new blue ocean while Kodak was in a red ocean.

The idea is not to compete but to come up with new and unique solutions that put red oceans out of business.
